“I am so impressed with the Joanne's insightful comments, which really helped my manuscript. She's got a great eye for detail for copy editing, too. She's incredibly professional and I will definitely use her again and again and again!”

Me? Word nerd, grammar geek, and extremely caffeinated. You? A badass indie writer that needs an editor.

"Heart and heat" means I give feedback that's equal parts candor and encouragement; I'll give it to you straight, but I'll also be your biggest cheerleader.

Sharing your story with the world is nerve-wracking, but you have a story inside of you that you need to tell, and you deserve to do so proudly. As an editor, I handle your commas, your awkward sentences, that one word you can never spell right—and everything else—so that when your novel's out in the world, the only thing you have to do is bask in your rave reviews.

Editing your writing is a huge responsibility, so I invest a lot of energy into the professional author-editor relationship. If you want to find out if we're a good fit, get in touch! I offer sample edits for up to 5 pages. Please note: I offer editing using Microsoft Word’s Tracked Changes and Comment functions; these functions are often compatible with Open Office.

Check out my testimonials to see what my previous clients have loved about working with me.

I specialize in contemporary romance, including most sub-genres with any heat level. I would love the opportunity to work with queer, neurodiverse, disabled, and/or BIPOC authors!

Please note: I am not currently accepting new clients.

copy editing

Rate: $0.012 per word

Copy editing includes examination of the clarity, coherency, consistency, and correctness of the language in your story. Therefore, my copyediting package includes an examination of your manuscript for internal inconsistencies in story details, plot holes, clarity and coherency of language, correctness in grammar and mechanics, and more. I will make suggestions and comments on any confusion around plot or structure if I run into them, but copyediting is not a developmental edit. You will also receive a customized style sheet.

My standard turnaround for copyediting is about three weeks for up to 70,000 words, but a higher rate can be negotiated for shorter deadlines. This timeframe may need to be adjusted for longer manuscripts.

proofreading

Rate: $0.007 per word

A proofread is the final pass of a manuscript before you send your book to your formatter (or before you format your book yourself!). During a proofread, I focus solely on what is incorrect or inconsistent, format-wise or grammar-wise. I will not look at the effectiveness of your language, echoes, awkward phrasing. If you feel like the language or the grammar in your writing may need some tightening up, I suggest seeking a copy edit. If you do not already have one, I will create a style sheet for you.
